Whether or not a Christian is a Republican, Democrat or Independent most of us can agree that abortion breaks God’s heart, ends a life and traumatizes the women who have the abortion for a lifetime. The question that we face is this, what in the world do we do about it as followers of Christ? What should be our reaction? There are two extreme responses that should be avoided. The first thing we should avoid is to do nothing, to be silent.  We all look back at the horror of Nazi Germany as they tried to systematically eliminate the Jews.  We wonder in amazement, "why didn't more people stand up for what is right, stand up for the innocent?" Is it a stretch to say that there will be many who look back on our current generation and wonder why we didn’t do more about abortion? The other extreme is those who take action but instead of demonstrating love and compassion they vent their anger in public conflicts and with insults. The end result is a general public that views Christians as smug, rigid, unloving, judgmental but weak in compassion. I believe by following Christ we can navigate between these two extremes.  In Luke 7:36-50 we see the Pharisees wanting nothing to do with a women known for her immoral lifestyle. But this women senses something different about Jesus. It's not that Jesus ever compromises with sin, in fact he came to die to liberate us from our sins. No, this women knew that Jesus saw her sin, but he also saw into her heart and knew that she had immense value because she was made in the image of God. She knew Christ loved her. Is there anything more powerful than to know, to deeply know, that you are loved by another? I pray that as a church we avoid the extremes and instead are moved by the love of Christ to care for these women and for their precious unborn children. A couple resources to continue thinking through the issues that pertain to abortion...&#x3C;br /&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"&#x3E;&#x3C;/span&#x3E; &#x3C;/p&#x3E;&#x3C;ul type="disc"&#x3E;&#x3C;ul type="circle"&#x3E;&#x3C;li&#x3E;&#x3C;a href="http://www.optionsnj.org/"&#x3E;&#x3C;span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"&#x3E;www.optionsnj.org&#x3C;/span&#x3E;&#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;b&#x3E;&#x3C;/b&#x3E;&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;li&#x3E;&#x3C;a href="http://www.abort73.com/"&#x3E;&#x3C;span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt"&#x3E;www.abort73.com&#x3C;/span&#x3E; &#x3C;/a&#x3E;&#x3C;/li&#x3E;&#x3C;/ul&#x3E;&#x3C;/ul&#x3E;&#x3C;p&#x3E;&#x3C;/p&#x3E;</description><itunes:summary>Abortion There aren’t too many Christians, or people in general for that matter, who would argue that abortion is a good thing.
